Step 1: Report to Your Insurer Immediately
Report the accident to your own auto insurance company within 24 hours. You do not need to contact the other driver's insurer to initiate PIP. PIP is first-party coverage through your own policy.
Step 2: Get Medical Treatment Right Away
See a doctor immediately — ideally the same day. Delaying treatment creates gaps that insurers use to deny claims. MAIC accepts walk-in accident patients every day.
Step 3: Complete the NF-2 Form
The NF-2 (Application for Motor Vehicle No-Fault Benefits) must be filed with your insurer within 30 days of the accident. Missing this deadline can result in complete claim denial.
Step 4: Attend Any Required IME
Your insurer may request an Independent Medical Examination. You must attend or risk losing benefits. If an IME doctor disputes your injuries, MAIC physicians can produce a point-by-point rebuttal report.
Step 5: Keep Treating Consistently
Gaps in treatment give insurers grounds to argue you've reached maximum medical improvement. Attend every appointment. MAIC coordinates directly with your attorney's office throughout your care.
